It's no secret that increasing airflow to your engine can be the biggest single improvement you can make to produce more torque and horsepower.
The key to making excellent torque and horsepower comes from using the smallest port for a given amount of airflow and then matching the correct port size to the airflow requirements of your application. It is extremely important to have this relationship working properly, as engines can only consume a nominal amount of air.
This is a very misunderstood concept and often the reason why so many combinations don't work very well. Too big an intake or exhaust port with too much port volume can hurt your performance as much as too small a port with not enough port volume. Using this approach correctly though, will always result in the best spread of power, drivability, and fuel efficiency.
